I wish we had the option to choose the options on the trailer just like the boat. I normally trailer 60 miles each way to boat so a good trailer is very important to me. I am sure it won’t be long before I will need to replace them. Even the “diamond plating” over the fenders is plastic. I will say the bow stop looks very sturdy, but the fenders are plastic. I was happy they found a boat without the MFI trailer, but now I am starting to wonder if these new trailers are any better. If you guys have this trailer you may want to give it a good going over. When I talked to the mechanic he said every bolt on my trailer was loose. Yamaha wanted the dealers to check the security of all the bolts on the trailer. My salesman said the delay was actually a good thing for me because Yamaha had just issued a safety recall on the Shore Lander trailers. Since it was a transfer from another dealer it took an extra day to work everything out. It was a great day yesterday as I picked up my new 242 Limited S. IMO, I would save my money and do what needs to be done and live with the rest.at least until several years of service life proves the shorelandr is a better trailer. What most of us wish, is when they see a deficient component, they would recall it and replace it. As a matter of fact, I had issues with a number of components over the years and there were better components available at MFI.but they only supplied what Yamaha spec'ed.
#Shore landr trailer upgrade#
But it was always in their power to upgrade the failing components. Yamaha is certainly expecting (hoping) that the perception will be an improvement or they wouldn't have changed suppliers. I am willing to bet that they are the same grade on the Shorelandr. I don't know exactly where the components on the MFI fall but they sure had problems with them. And all of the suppliers for MFI and Shorelandr are basically the same but they could use upper end components or lower end. Boat trailers just are not great trailers unless you put excellent parts into them. If shorelandr has the same level of complaints, they will fix the stuff for awhile and may be in the same situation.

I suspect that MFI was dropped because of the amount of complaints without resolution. The bunks? Well, they will be spec'ed by Yamaha just like they were on the MFI. It too is a 1500 pound winch, the surge brake unit, axles, bearings, and bearing buddies may all be made and supplied by the same manufacturer. I don't want to throw kerosine on the shorelandr since I don't have one and haven't used them.but, you know the jury is still out on it since it is new to the yamaha lineup.
